The annual food drive was established in 1987 to help provide food to needy families in the West Michigan area via the Salvation Army distribution system. This is fueled by member donation of food products as well as customer contributions each fall/winter. It is run by a committee and member volunteers each year. If you would like to join this committee or make a contribution, please contact one of the committee members.
The needs of families trying to get back on their feet after a major setback are great. The Salvation Army of Grand Rapids, Family Social Services, provides whatever help they can including food. To this end, the GMR reps., food brokers, suppliers and grocery retailers have rallied their support with donations of food, gift certificates and cash.

2019 Salvation Army Angel Tree Collection
The GMR organization volunteers to help the Salvation Army with their annual Toy/Food Drive. This opportunity gives our membership the chance to help the Salvation Army disburse toys and food to needy families in West Michigan. The GMR will volunteer on a December day to help distribute toys and food certificates to individuals and families who had signed up to receive holiday assistance. This is an excellent opportunity for our organization to get involved in the community and show many West Michigan families the cheer of Christmas.
2018 Christmas Turkeys
Thank you to everyone who helped us donate 60 turkeys to the Salvation Army WMNI food patry this morning. You are helping us all #FightforGood for this 2018 holiday season!
On behalf of the G.M.R & SpartanNash partnership, SpartanNash has offered to donate 60 Open Acres turkeys again this year to the Salvation Army food pantry for Christmas holiday. These turkeys will be donated to families in the Kent County area. We would like to extend a big thank you to SpartanNash for their support of this organization that is close to our G.M.R. family’s hearts.
2018 Salvation Army Angel Tree
We are asking for unwrapped toys or $10/$20 teen gift card donations at the November & December 2018 meetings.
2016 Salvation Army – Angel Tree – Toy Distribution Volunteers Thank you!
We will be donating our time as a group at this amazing event again this year. If you have never been I encourage you to sign up for a shift this year. Our team, having helped at this event for many years, would all attest to the benefit on a personal level for donating our time.
All shifts will be at the Fulton location this year.
As a GROUP we will focus either on the Tues 12/20 7am shift or the Wed Dec 21st 12pm shift – but you are welcome to sign up for any date and time listed below.

2016 Kids Food Basket
Thank you to everyone who came out with the G.M.R. to help Kids Food Basket nourish children living at or near the poverty level with critical evening meals to level the playing field for their academic achievement.

In memory of the founder of the food drive, this committee was renamed the Robert F. Dubes Community Outreach committee in 2008.
